STRONG IS THE NEW PRETTY

About the show

A theatrical work by acclaimed Australian playwright Suzie Miller explores the founding and launch of Australia's national women's Australian Rules Football league. Directed by Sarah Giles, the production dramatizes the real-world journey from a 2010 recommendation to establish a women's AFLW competition to its eventual debut as a sensation in Australian sports culture. The piece blends factual history with imaginative storytelling, drawing on interviews and research to capture the determination, political will, and grassroots passion that transformed women's football in Australia. Performed by eight actors, the play combines theatrical elements including movement, music, and video design to convey both personal stories and the broader cultural shift represented by the league's creation.
