Sausalito, summer 1976: a rock band on the verge of a breakthrough, in the midst of the grueling process of making a new album. With every take, old wounds and new conflicts are laid bare. How much truth—and how much compromise—does a great song require? Artistic pressure, drugs, and love—the story is inspired by the creation of the legendary album Rumours by the British rock band Fleetwood Mac. It also bridges the gap to the present day in its exploration of the struggle for art and identity: what does creative self-promotion look like in an era of a highly commercial, data-driven music industry? Featuring original music by Will Butler (Arcade Fire), this hit Broadway production—with five wins and 13 nominations—holds the record for the most nominations in Tony Award history. Since 2020, the young Hungarian director and writer Jakab Tarnóczi has been a member of the artistic leadership team at the progressive Katona József Theatre in Budapest. The theatre produces groundbreaking, intermedial, and genre-defying works that are invited to international festivals. In Germany, Tarnóczi presents his third production, Stereophonic, set in a hyper-realistic recording studio environment where every note is played live.
