About the show

Australian lawyer and playwright Suzie Miller has titled her new play Inter Alia—Latin for among other things—reflecting the fact that the respected judge Jessica Parks is, among other things, a mother, wife, friend, and karaoke enthusiast. She strives to balance all these roles: attempting to defuse tensions in her marriage to Michael—her husband and fellow lawyer, whose career has been less successful—and trying to maintain a respectful, mindful relationship with her son, Harry. Her world is shattered when Harry returns home drunk from a party one night and is subsequently accused of raping a classmate. Jessica Parks’ carefully balanced life collapses, leaving her facing a dilemma: should she follow her maternal instinct to protect her child at all costs, or stand by her convictions as a lawyer and a feminist? Following the explosive monologue Prima Facie—in which a lawyer grapples with the female experience of sexualized violence within a patriarchal legal system—Suzie Miller once again places a woman at the center of a story where professional and private worlds collide during a crisis. Director Anna Stiepani presents this exploration of modern motherhood and concepts of masculinity as a German-language premiere. Stiepani’s previous work includes directing the world premiere of Staubfrau by Maria Milisavljević (winner of the 2025 Mülheim Playwriting Prize) at the Schauspielhaus Zürich.
