About the show

Set in 1920s Berlin, this musical follows writer Clifford Bradshaw and nightclub performer Sally Bowles as they navigate the city's hedonistic underground. Their romance unfolds amid the glamorous but morally ambiguous world of the Kit Kat Club, where a charismatic master of ceremonies presides over decadent cabaret performances. As the political landscape darkens with the rise of fascism, the characters face the collision between personal freedom and the encroaching totalitarianism of the Nazi era. Based on Christopher Isherwood's Berlin Stories, the 1966 musical features jazz-inflected compositions by John Kander and Fred Ebb that capture the sophistication and desperation of the Weimar Republic's final years.
