About the show
Director Roger Vontobel, who has been staging productions at the D’haus for years (including "William Tell" and "Hamlet"), transforms Michael Ende's classic into a theatrical experience for everyone – young and old, big and small. Gnome and grandmother, Boggart and best friend, racing snail and mud-lover – all are invited on a journey between reality and Fantastica, between the comfort of an armchair and the flight of a luckdragon, between fear and hope. With music, humor, and powerful imagery, the actors of the main theater and the Young Theater will create an evening of theater starting in May. The performance begins on the main stage in the main theater and, after the intermission, invites the audience to an open-air theater experience. A child opens a book – and finds within its pages the entrance to a world that only exists as long as we believe in it. But the realm of Fantastica is in danger: The Nothing is devouring its endless landscapes and plunging them into the abyss of oblivion. Only a human child can save what is in danger of disappearing.
