About the show

In this stage adaptation of Jonas Eika's novel, the sun-drenched beaches of Cancun become a space where economic inequality and human desire collide. Young men working as beach attendants navigate the complex dynamics of service, survival, and connection in an environment built on tourism and exploitation. Directed by ensemble member Claudius Steffens, the production explores themes of emotional survival and intimacy amid systemic pressure. Through ritualistic movement, sensory elements, and imaginative sequences, the performance traces the evolving relationship between two characters as they attempt to find meaning and connection within structures designed to diminish them. The adaptation marks the German-language stage premiere of Eika's acclaimed text, which won the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2019 and was shortlisted for the International Booker Prize.
