About the show
Tyll is a jester, a provocateur, and a fool. Daniel Kehlmann's brilliant adaptation of the Till Eulenspiegel myth transports us to the time of the Thirty Years' War. Tyll Ulenspiegel, legendary rogue and folk hero, travels across Europe with the baker's daughter, Nele. On their journey, they encounter many ordinary people as well as the so-called great: the juggler Pirmin, who becomes a brutal mentor to Tyll, and the exiled royal couple of Bohemia, whose brief reign plunged the entire country into catastrophe. They also meet the young Count Wolkenstein, who has never seen a battlefield in his life, and the worldly sage Athanasius Kircher, who had Tyll's father murdered as a sorcerer—and whose greatest secret is that he invented his scientific theories. Their fates intertwine to form a panorama of a world gone awry. As a traveling troupe of performers, the seven students of the Düsseldorf acting studio of the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" present "Tyll" by bestselling author Daniel Kehlmann, directed by André Kaczmarczyk. The novel tells a story full of humor and hope about what allows us to survive in dark times.
