About the show
As part of a work program, Cennet is assigned to clean the "Dog Pound" gym. There, she is observed by a mysterious night watchwoman who asks her increasingly intrusive questions and assigns her tasks. Cennet's facade begins to crumble. Behind it, complicated experiences and dark feelings that she has suppressed threaten to surface. Cennet's children are grown. They are becoming independent and making decisions that she struggles with. Cennet should understand her children, for she too once left her homeland and her mother in search of a new beginning. She found new freedoms in Germany, but also new obstacles. In a society permeated by racism and misogyny, she focused on the best possible purpose in life that remained: motherhood. She believed she could find her own happiness in her children's successes. But without her children, especially her daughter Devin, this happiness now threatens to slip away. Cennet doesn't know who she is without her children. Author Duygu Ağal grew up in Hamburg and lives and works in Berlin. Through sharp humor and loving profundity, Ağal's work offers insight into the emotional world of her characters and addresses topics such as intersectional representation, queerness, and identity politics in a touching and imaginative way.
