"Whose story is it, and who has the right to tell it?" Written by Scottish playwright Kieran Hurley, Mouthpiece is a gripping two-hander that explores the complex relationship between Libby, a struggling middle-aged playwright, and Declan, a talented but troubled young man from a marginalized background. When Libby saves Declan’s life on Edinburgh's Salisbury Crags, an unlikely bond forms. However, as Libby begins to use Declan’s raw, traumatic life experiences as material for her new play, the lines between artistic inspiration and ethical exploitation become dangerously blurred. A sharp, meta-theatrical masterpiece, Mouthpiece challenges the audience to confront the "poverty porn" industry and the responsibility of the artist in representing the voices of the voiceless.
