The Taipei Performing Arts Center, widely known as TPAC, is a world-class architectural landmark and performance venue located in the Shilin District of Taipei, Taiwan. Officially opened in 2022, the building was designed by the renowned Office for Metropolitan Architecture, led by architects Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten. The center is instantly recognizable for its striking, futuristic design, which features a central cube integrated with three distinct auditorium structures that plug into it. These venues include the unique 800-seat Globe Playhouse, which resembles a giant metallic sphere floating outside the building, as well as the 1,500-seat Grand Theater and the 500-seat Blue Box for experimental works. Remarkably, the Grand Theater and the Blue Box can be combined into a massive Super Theater with a 100-meter-long stage to accommodate large-scale, unconventional productions. Situated right next to the vibrant Shilin Night Market and Jiantan MRT Station, the center also features a public loop trail that allows everyday visitors to walk through the building and view backstage activities. It serves as a vital cultural hub that actively promotes contemporary performing arts, international collaborations, and community engagement in Taiwan.
