About the show

Jack works at a telephone helpline for LGBTQ+ people. One hazy morning, still hungover, he receives a call from a stranger named Michael. What begins as an ordinary counselling call draws Jack into a remarkable night in Soho, London, on 29 February 1988, as Michael recounts a life marked by profound loss. Through their encounter, the play explores love, loss, and one person’s struggle to preserve the dignity of life.

Details

CRUISE is a play about one person’s struggle to preserve human dignity in an era marked by discrimination and stigma, while confronting love, loss, and the fragility of life. Against the backdrop of social prejudice toward LGBTQ+ people and the realities surrounding HIV/AIDS, the play reflects on human connection and the meaning of life that endure even in the face of suffering and loss. Beginning with a single phone call, the story moves beyond individual memory to ask us to remember the people whose lives and experiences must not be forgotten.
