ANTHROPOLIS II LAIOS

SYNOPSIS In 2025, at Myeongdong Arts Theatre, actor Jeon Hye-jin begins the story of Laius, the father of Oedipus. After the eras of Dionysus and Pentheus, and Lycus and Amphion—eras marked by madness and bloodshed—Thebes suddenly finds itself without a king. The citizens of Thebes bring Laius, the only surviving descendant of Cadmus who had once been abandoned, back to the city, crown him king, and arrange his marriage to Jocasta. Despite a prophecy that “the son will kill his father,” Laius and Jocasta conceive a child and begin to live in fear of what fate may have in store for them... Why, then, did Oedipus become the protagonist of a tragedy?
