Sydney Opera House
Following a bloody battlefield encounter, Scottish general Macbeth and his companion Banquo meet three Weird Sisters who prophesy that Macbeth will become king. Consumed by ambition and encouraged by his wife Lady Macbeth, he commits murder to seize the throne. As they pursue power and certainty, the couple descends into psychological torment, their hands stained with blood and their minds fractured by guilt. Directed by Peter Evans with Anthony Taufa in the title role and Matilda Ridgway as Lady Macbeth, this production traces the catastrophic unraveling of two people whose hunger for control leads to their moral and mental destruction.
