Hong Kong pianist Aristo Sham, fresh from winning the Gold Medal and Audience Award at the 2025 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, presents a recital pairing virtuosity with deep musical insight. The programme opens with Bach's monumental Chaconne for solo violin in Ferruccio Busoni's re-imagined transcription, followed by Busoni's transcriptions of Brahms' Six Chorale Preludes for organ and Variations on a Prelude in C minor by Chopin. The second half showcases Brahms, featuring late Capriccios and Intermezzi—intimate character pieces—culminating in the youthful Piano Sonata No. 1, composed when Brahms was just 20, an ambitious work of sweeping architecture infused with Beethovenian spirit and Romantic passion.
