A story of desire, love, and tragedy that shook Paris in 1482. The story begins with Gringoire, a poet of Paris, heralding the dawn of a new era. At Notre-Dame Cathedral, Archdeacon Frollo keeps Quasimodo, the cathedral’s hunchback bell-ringer, as his loyal servant. Meanwhile, a community of Romani people has settled in the square before the cathedral, where Clopin and the beautiful Esmeralda live. When Frollo happens to see Esmeralda dancing, he becomes consumed by an overwhelming desire for her. Captain Phoebus, despite being engaged to Fleur-de-Lys, also falls in love with Esmeralda. Soon, three men—Quasimodo, Frollo, and Phoebus—find themselves hopelessly drawn to the same woman. Their conflicting desires and love for Esmeralda set them on a path toward an inevitable and devastating tragedy. This Korean-language production brings the timeless story of The Hunchback of Notre Dame to the stage, portraying the intertwined destinies of those who love, desire, and ultimately lose themselves in the shadow of the cathedral.
