Jonathan is a struggling artist with a dream of seeing the musical he has written make it to Broadway. But reality continually brings him hardship and pain. On the verge of turning thirty, Jonathan supports himself by working as a waiter at a SoHo restaurant while pursuing his dream. His girlfriend, Susan, however, longs to leave New York with Jonathan and build a simple life together. Meanwhile, his best friend Michael, who once shared the same artistic ambitions, has given up on becoming an artist and chosen a stable career, finding great success as a marketing executive. After visiting Michael’s new apartment downtown and seeing his new car, Jonathan feels even more miserable and begins to question the choices he has made. With everything in his life seeming uncertain, Jonathan becomes increasingly obsessed with finishing his musical, Superbia. Soon, the show will be presented at a workshop where it will be evaluated by industry professionals, while his unwanted thirtieth birthday is also fast approaching. Hoping that the workshop will succeed and that turning thirty will mark the beginning of a new chapter in his life, Jonathan becomes increasingly anxious and neurotic under the pressure. As the hands of the clock move relentlessly forward, the sound of “tick, tick...” echoes in his mind, haunting him with the constant fear that time is running out.
