FURIES

About the show

The Furies, once goddesses of vengeance, have been transformed into benevolent spirits and stripped of their ancient purpose. With revenge replaced by civil law, the Erinyes—now called Eumenides—struggle to find meaning in their new role. Yet in their fantasies, they remain hunters of men, dreaming of a dramatic comeback. Their frustration grows as they observe that the courts fail to adequately address violence. In this commissioned work for the Burgtheater, author Martina Clavadetscher explores a fundamental question through the figure of these mythological beings: how can centuries of violence against women finally come to an end? The production brings together the house ensemble with community performers, creating a collective examination of justice, rage, and accountability.
