About the show

Majestic Drums is a percussion-focused concert presented by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra as part of the Hong Kong Drum Festival. The programme features multiple acclaimed drum ensembles and percussionists, including Refiner Drums, the taiko group GEKKO, and soloists Chau Chin-tung and Huang Hsuan-ning. The concert explores the drum as a universal musical instrument across cultures, combining traditional Chinese percussion with Japanese taiko and Western orchestral elements. New works premiere alongside established pieces, including Alfred Wong's Mountainscapes and a collaboration titled Resonation. The concert culminates in an interactive finale where the audience participates alongside the performers and orchestra in Chew Hee Chiat's Let the Thunder of Drums Roll VII.1020, designed to showcase the inclusive and cross-cultural nature of drum music.
