CHENGDU PRE-TOUR CONCERT: ERIC LU PLAYS CHOPIN

About the show

Pianist Eric Lu, winner of the International Chopin Competition's Gold Medal, performs Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Resident Conductor Lio Kuokman. The evening features a world premiere commission by composer Yao Chen titled Waltz of the Rolling Giants, created for the orchestra's 2026/27 international and China tours. The concert concludes with Stravinsky's The Firebird Suite, showcasing the orchestra's full orchestral palette. The performance combines lyrical romanticism with dramatic twentieth-century orchestration, running approximately one hour and fifty-five minutes with an intermission. This pre-tour concert precedes the ensemble's appearances in Chengdu as part of the Hong Kong Week 2026 festival.
