Italian dancer Roberto Bolle takes the lead in a two-act ballet choreographed by Mauro Bigonzetti, exploring the life and artistry of the Baroque painter Caravaggio. The production draws on the turbulent biography of the 16th-century master—a cultural innovator whose dramatic use of light and shadow influenced generations of artists, yet whose personal life was marked by violence and mystery. Bolle's performance portrays Caravaggio torn between the creative forces that drove his genius and the darker impulses that defined his existence. The ballet combines classical technique with contemporary movement, set to a score by Bruno Moretti that reimagines music by Caravaggio's contemporary Claudio Monteverdi, including passages from the operas L'Orfeo and The Coronation of Poppea. This marks the first international staging of the work, presented as an Asia premiere at the Hong Kong Arts Festival.
