Verdi's Simon Boccanegra traces the political and personal struggles of a seafarer who rises to lead the Republic of Genoa. On the day of his election as doge, tragedy strikes when his beloved dies and their infant daughter disappears. Twenty-five years later, as an established leader navigating factional conflicts within a divided republic, Boccanegra discovers an unexpected path to reunite with his lost family. The opera examines themes of reconciliation and unity—both within families torn apart by circumstance and within a fragmented nation yearning for peace. Conductor Eun Sun Kim leads this production of a Verdi score renowned for its lyrical beauty and emotional power.
