Zora Neale Hurston's Spunk marks the stage debut of this fable centered on a charismatic stranger who arrives in town seeking work. His musical talent and undeniable charm stir admiration and jealousy among the townspeople, but complications intensify when his attention turns to Evalina, a woman already bound by marriage to the local conjurer's son. The collision of human passion, supernatural power, and romantic desire drives a story infused with humor, music, and the ultimate triumph of love. Directed by Tamilla Woodard, with new songs and arrangements by Nehemiah Luckett and choreography by nicHi douglas, this production celebrates Hurston's exploration of desire and destiny in the American South.
