About the show

Set in November 1963, the story follows a group of young Marines on the eve of their deployment to Vietnam. They organize a cruel, misogynistic contest called a "dogfight" where they compete to bring the ugliest date to a party. Marine Eddie Birdlace invites Rose, an awkward and idealistic waitress, who ultimately changes the rules of the game and teaches him the power of compassion.
