THE BRIGHTENING AIR

About the show

Conor McPherson's new play explores the disruption of a carefully maintained equilibrium when hidden family secrets emerge in a remote Irish homestead. Adult siblings Billie and Stephen inhabit their ancestral home in a delicate, semi-functional arrangement until the unexpected arrival of their estranged uncle and brother shatters their precarious balance, unleashing supernatural forces with far-reaching consequences. Set during the 1980s, the work weaves together themes of longing, fate, and the inexplicable mysteries that bind and fracture families. McPherson draws on his acclaimed dramaturgical voice, evident in previous works such as *The Weir* and *Girl from the North Country*, to craft a piece that critics have described as audacious and profoundly moving.
