Lunar Eclipse is a tender off-Broadway play by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies. The story follows George and Em, a long-married couple living on a Kentucky farm, who gather on a summer night to observe a lunar eclipse, sipping bourbon while confronting the realities of aging, memory, and their marriage. The play is an intimate, 90-minute character study featuring only the two actors. As the cosmic event unfolds in real time, the couple's conversation ranges from lighthearted memories to much heavier, sometimes tragic aspects of their lives—including their relationships, their deceased adopted children, their pets, and their ultimate mortality. While the play uses the lunar eclipse as a beautiful backdrop to frame the vastness of the universe, it ultimately acts as a mirror for the relationship itself: showing how two people can orbit one another for decades and still harbor secrets, misinterpretations, and hidden depths.
