A village in Syria during the ongoing civil war Abu Firas, a grieving father, is the main character in this gripping play set in a war-torn village. When his son Firas dies fighting in the army, Abu Firas refuses to accept the sealed coffin without seeing the body. His defiance puts him at odds with Abu al-Tayyib, the powerful local party leader who is promoting the war effort. As more young men from the village die, a chilling truth emerges – the regime is manipulating and sacrificing its own soldiers. The play explores hard-hitting themes of politics, social inequality, family, and the devastating human cost of war. Goats stands as a searing indictment of political manipulation and a poignant reminder of the importance of speaking truth to power, even in the face of overwhelming opposition.
