Maggie, a woman grappling with heartbreak and depression, embarks on an introspective journey through her obsession with the color blue. As she moves through her daily life in London, memories of her lost love, the “prince of blue,” intertwine with reflections on art, philosophy, and the nature of grief. Meanwhile, Maggie cares for her friend Rachel, who has been paralyzed in an accident, forcing her to confront questions of mortality and resilience. Bluets is a poetic exploration of love, loss, and the human need for meaning in the face of despair. Through a series of fragmented scenes that blur the line between past and present, the play weaves together Maggie’s personal reflections with wider philosophical musings on the nature of color, consciousness, and connection. The use of multiple voices (A, B, and C) to represent different aspects of Maggie’s thoughts creates a dreamlike atmosphere, reflecting the protagonist’s fragmented emotional state. As Maggie struggles with suicidal thoughts and attempts to find solace in her blue objects, the play grapples with themes of depression, the healing power of art, and the possibility of renewal.
