PURPOSE

About the show

When Nazareth Jasper returns home during a winter storm, he confronts his family's towering legacy as the youngest son of a celebrated Civil Rights leader. Gathered under one roof, parents, siblings, and an unexpected guest must reckon with long-buried secrets and competing loyalties. Playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins presents a sharp-edged family portrait that examines what members owe to the family they inherit versus the lives they forge independently. Through biting humor and emotional depth, the play explores how personal identity and public reputation collide when a family sits down together and dares to speak what has been left unsaid. The production asks essential questions about responsibility, belonging, and the stories families tell themselves.
