About the show
Declan Donnellan directed the 16 young actors of the Royal Shakespeare Company's Academy in this stripped-down and energetic version of King Lear. The stage was largely bare apart from odd bits of upended furniture. Nonso Anozie's powerful Lear was a mixture of affection and rage while Edward Hogg played the Fool as stand-up comic, at one point sitting on Lear's lap like a ventriloquist's dummy.
