Bartlett's cross-gender production resembled a nineteenth century costume-drama. The male actor Chris New was a sweetly sensitive Viola, while the traditional male roles of Sir Toby Belch, Sir Andrew Aguecheek and Fabian were played by Marjorie Yates, Annabel Leventon and Joanne Howarth. Music was at the heart the production and the grand piano used by James Clyde's droll Feste doubled as a hiding place from which Sir Toby, Sir Andrew and Fabian witnessed Malvolio's discovery of the fake letter.
