The World Shakespeare Festival production was also part of the Nations at War trilogy, which included Roxana Silbert's Richard IIIand A Soldier in Every Son: The Rise of the Aztecs. Aberg positioned the title role played by Alex Waldmann as the monarch who likes a party, with the pivotal role of The Bastard played as a woman, Pippa Nixon. Cardinal Pandulph, was also given the feminine treatment, played in a sharp trouser suit by Paola Dionisotti.
