Pushkin wrote Boris Godunov during the political turmoil of the 1820s in Russia. This new adaptation was written by Adrian Mitchell and directed by Michael Boyd. Moscow 1598: Boris Godunov reluctantly takes the throne after Ivan the Terrible's death, but rumours swirl that he secretly murdered the rightful heir, Dmitry. A young monk, Grigory, poses as Prince Dmitry and marches on Moscow with Polish and Lithuanian troops. Performed at the Swan Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, November 2012 to March 2013.
