Based on Kim Young-ha's seminal award-winning novel, The Empire of Light takes the audience on a journey between truth and lies, dreams and reality. A North Korean spy living undercover in South Korea for 20 years sees his meticulously constructed life fall apart in just 24 hours. Directed by French director Arthur Nauzyciel, this collaboration between the Théâtre National de Bretagne and the National Theater Company of Korea brings together text, striking visuals and unconventional staging to create a haunting psychological theatre experience where reality and illusion intertwine, mirroring the fractured soul of Korea and the lingering wounds of the country's division.
