Edward Albee delves deeper into his play The Zoo Story by adding a first act, Homelife, which precedes Peter's fateful meeting with Jerry on a park bench in Central Park. The two plays present a complete portrait of Peter and Jerry and explore themes of isolation, loneliness, miscommunication and dehumanization. The Zoo Story premiered off-Broadway at the Provincetown Playhouse on January 14, 1960, in a production by Theatre 1960. The two-act pairing of Homelife and The Zoo Story had its world premiere at the Hartford Stage in 2004 and premiered off-Broadway at the Second Stage Theatre in 2007, under the title Peter and Jerry. Retitled At Home at the Zoo, the play returned to New York on February 23, 2018 at The Signature Theater in a production starring Katie Finneran, Robert Sean Leonard and Paul Sparks.
