Signe Fabricius, who previously created the ultra-popular dance performances “I am Gold” and “Bonnie & Clyde” at Betty Nansen Teatret, now places two of history’s famous rivals in the middle of a vibrant dance floor. Power trumps morality in the feud between the Queen of Scotland Mary Stuart and Elizabeth I of England – one of the most dramatic conflicts in British history, characterised by rivalry, religion, and betrayal. They know that without the love of the people, they must die. A worldview that hasn’t changed much since the 16th century. Influence is still about seducing the people. Like the queens of history, today’s demagogues grovel for recognition. Civilisation, populism and the corrupting effects of power are bathed in glittering spotlights, and the history of the queens rises from the dance floor and becomes an image of world leaders and human patterns. The two women’s fates are pitted against each other in a cooked-up battle dance, told through steps, bodies and words. The winner takes it all. The performance is created as part of an overall process called BETTY UDVIKLER in collaboration with Bikubefonden.
