National Theater Company of Korea
Sammaekyung returns to the stage in 2026 following its 2025 sold-out premiere at the National Theater Company of Korea. The original Korean play, adapted and directed by Lee Cheol-hee, explores themes of artistic pursuit and human experience through the story of an aging actor confronting a failed performance from thirty-five years prior. At the threshold of the afterlife, the protagonist resolves to return to the stage and inhabit the character Do-nyeom, only to find that redemption remains elusive. As memories surface—loneliness, conflict, failure—the narrative becomes a meditation on theater itself and a tribute to those who persevere through doubt and despair. The production features actor Ji Chun-seong and a cast of fourteen performers, with scenography by master designer Lee Tae-sub. The work was recognized as one of the top three plays of 2025 by the International Association of Theatre Critics Korea.
