James F. Ingalls

American lighting designer James F. Ingalls creates lighting designs for ballet and contemporary dance as well as theatre, symphony concerts and opera. He is a regular guest at Dutch National Opera & Ballet, where he has created the lighting designs for various operas, the music theatre production Perle Noire and the full-length ballets Coppélia, Giselle, Don Quixote and Raymonda. He also created the lighting design for Dutch National Ballet’s programme Present/s and for the recent production The Fairy’s Kiss. In addition, he has created lighting designs for Paul Taylor Dance Company, Mark Morris Dance Group and the non-profit dance academy The Wooden Floor in Santa Ana, California. He has also worked for many years with theatre director Garry Hynes and opera director Peter Sellars. In recent years, Ingalls has created the lighting designs for, among others, TWYLA NOW at New York City Center, a new production of George Balanchine’s Firebird for Miami City Ballet, Alexei Ratmansky’s The Sleeping Beauty (for American Ballet Theatre and Balletto del Teatro alla Scala) and The Fairy’s Kiss (for Miami City Ballet), the world premieres in San Francisco Ballet’s Unbound programme, and Raymonda and The Fairy’s Kiss for Dutch National Ballet.
