Alyx Dennsion

Alyx Dennison is a singer, composer, songwriter and sound designer living and working on Wangal and Gadigal land (Sydney, Australia). Known for her genre-defying work across experimental pop, contemporary composition and performance art, her practice spans music, theatre, dance, contemporary art and film. She first rose to prominence as one half of the acclaimed duo kyü (alongside Freya Berkhout), releasing two LPs to critical acclaim and being invited to perform at festivals such as SXSW (US), The Great Escape (UK), Sydney Festival, Meredith Music Festival, and Mona Foma. The duo received several accolades, including the Triple J Unearthed Award, Qantas Spirit of Youth Award, and a longlist nomination for the Australian Music Prize. Alongside her solo work, Alyx has built a respected career as a composer and sound designer, creating original scores for Belvoir St Theatre, Griffin Theatre, Sydney Theatre Company, Sydney Dance Company, Karul Projects, Performing Lines and the Australasian Dance Collective — as well as a number of independent productions. She has collaborated with many of Australia’s most celebrated creatives, including directors Eamon Flack (Artistic Director, Belvoir), Leticia Cáceres, and Hannah Goodwin; choreographers Charmene Yap, Cass Mortimer Eipper, Thomas E.S. Kelly, and Sara Black; and contemporary artists such as Agatha Gothe-Snape, Lauren Brincat, Patricia Piccinini and Oliver Beer (UK). Her recent composition and sound design highlights include a revival of Tommy Murphy’s Holding The Man (dir. Eamon Flack, Belvoir), The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (dir. Hannah Goodwin, Belvoir), original music for SBS’s anthology series Erotic Stories, and scoring and performing in Lauren Brincat’s large-scale “living sculpture” Tutti Presto fff, performed by a flock of drummers on the steps of the Sydney Opera House for Vivid Sydney. She also collaborated with multidisciplinary artist ADHOC on the immersive sound and film work (i don’t dream, i float), commissioned by Sydney Theatre Company and Vivid Sydney.
