Henrik Ibsen

Henrik Ibsen was a Norwegian playwright, poet, librettist, director, and writer born on 20 March 1828 and died on 23 May 1906. A towering figure in modern drama, Ibsen created works that fundamentally transformed theatre, including *A Doll's House*, *Ghosts*, *Peer Gynt*, *Hedda Gabler*, *The Wild Duck*, *An Enemy of the People*, *The Master Builder*, *Rosmersholm*, *Brand*, *Emperor and Galilean*, and *When We Dead Awaken*, alongside numerous other plays that spanned comedy, tragedy, and historical drama. His profound influence on European and world theatre was recognized through extraordinary honours: he received the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St. Olav, King Oscar II's reward medal, the Grand Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog, the Commanders Grand Cross of the Order of the Polar Star, the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Vasa, the Knight Grand Officer of the Order of the Saxe-Ernestine (3rd class), and the Order of the Medjidie.
