Steffen Heinke

Steffen Heinke, born in Berlin in 1967, has been associated with the Berliner Ensemble since 1983. He trained as an electrician specializing in stage lighting at the Komische Oper Berlin, and also qualified as a photographer and cinema projectionist. Starting in 1985, he worked as a lighting technician at the Berliner Ensemble, later serving as a lighting console operator and, since 1996, as a master electrician. He has contributed to numerous productions at the theater, working particularly closely on productions directed by Robert Wilson. He was also part of a three-person team responsible for the lighting design of the multi-award-winning production of Bertolt Brecht’s The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, directed by Heiner Müller. Since 1990, Steffen Heinke has also managed the technical aspects of the Berliner Ensemble’s international tours. In addition to his work for the theater, he has worked independently as a lighting designer and master electrician and was a member of the Ensemble Weill for several years.
