Thorsten Bihegue is an innovative German theater director, dramaturg, and playwright celebrated for his visionary contributions to contemporary performance and theater for young audiences. A graduate of the University of Hildesheim in Cultural Studies and Aesthetic Practice, as well as Dartington College of Arts in England, he has built a highly diverse international portfolio. He co-founded the boundary-pushing physical theater collective kInDeRdEuTsCh PrOjEkTs, staging acclaimed world premieres in cultural hubs like New York, San Francisco, and Berlin, before stepping into his prominent role as the director of the Junges Schauspielhaus Bochum. Known for his interdisciplinary approach and his unique ability to engage audiences with playful, intellectually challenging narratives, Bihegue has crafted numerous award-winning productions. His standout pieces, developed in collaboration with independent collectives and prestigious institutions like Schauspiel Dortmund and Junge Bühne Bochum, include experimental works like Silence oder Wie ich aus dem Fenster klang and (Amor und) Psyche. His brilliant contributions to modern playwriting and youth theater have been recognized with the prestigious Dutch-German Kaas & Kappes Playwrights' Prize for his production Nervt!, establishing him as a vital, transformative voice in the contemporary European theater scene.
