Jonathan Swift (1667–1745) was an Anglo-Irish novelist, Anglican clergyman, and poet born in Dublin, Ireland. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest prose satirists in the history of world literature. His literary style is characterized by a sharp, incisive, and often darkly humorous form of satire, through which he mercilessly exposed human greed, vanity, lust for power, and blind faith in scientific rationalism.
