Cinemas are buzzing with anticipation as a string of highly anticipated titles approach their release dates — among them Christopher Nolan's Odyssey, the perennial hero's return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the children's favourite Hatshuping: Secret of the Whale Jewel. One title in particular has taken everyone by surprise, generating enormous buzz even in the United States: Hadestown: The Musical, a live-capture film of the beloved Broadway musical Hadestown.
Hadestown: The Musical had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June 2026 and opened in North American cinemas on 24 July 2026. What made it especially remarkable was the return of the original cast. Broadway originals Reeve Carney as Orpheus, Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, Patrick Page as Hades, and André De Shields as Hermes all reprised their roles, drawing enormous excitement from Broadway fans.

Riding the wave of its North American success, a UK theatrical release has also been officially confirmed for October 2026.

The answer lies in a perfect convergence of three elements: the artistic excellence of the source material, the reunion of the original cast, and outstanding camerawork. Director Brett Sullivan captured dynamic angles — from the centre of the revolving stage to positions near the ceiling — that no front-row seat in an actual theatre could ever offer, while also seizing on the subtlest shifts in the actors' expressions to create a deeper sense of immersion. The return of a cast that had been nearly impossible to see together since the original 2019 Broadway run also drove audiences back for repeat viewings. Critics, including those at The New York Times, heaped praise on the film, declaring that it "goes far beyond simply recording a stage performance — it completely redefines the grammar of the live-capture film," drawing comparisons to the greatest rock concert films ever made.
Hadestown captivated Korean audiences during both its original and revival runs here, and with its North American triumph now firmly established, one can only hope it won't be long before Korean audiences get the chance to see this film on the big screen too!
